Alice Reins Help A Talented Rider Missing Her Left Arm Below The Elbow

We were contacted by a lovely lady called Karen Gosney telling us she knew a young lady at her yard who was missing her left arm below the elbow who she wanted to help.  The young lady is 14 year old Chloe Streeter.  Karen spoke very highly of Chloe saying she was an excellent rider but found it difficult to hold her reins on her left side.  Karen asked us if we could help.  We told her yes we could.

After a few emails back and forth Karen and I established the width and length for a pair of bespoke Alice Reins for Chloe.  I then designed Chloes’ Alice Reins specifically for her placing loops on the left rein with measurements provided by Karen.  Chloes’ reins were made and sent to her. Here is what Chloe had to say:

I don’t really know how to start this but here it goes… before i had Alice Reins the rein on the left used to slip through my arm which led me to either loosing my rein or having to pull my right hand out to pull the rein back through my arm, but that is a distant memory. With Alice Reins they have 3 loops on the left rein and a normal rein on the right, I find them much easier to ride with, they have helped improve my balance and now gives me an even contact in the horses mouth as long as i keep my hand and arm level. they are also adjustable at the bottom of the rein so i can ride horses and ponies with them.

I have also made a friend for life someone that i can talk to about problems and just a general friend Alice xxx

Thank you to Alice, Jacqui, Alice Reins, and Karen for getting them for me xx

Karen sent this message when Chloe first tried her reins…

“Hi jacquie. Chloe Streeters first time with her new reins. She said they were amazing !! I’m sure she will send you more photos. Thank you so much.”

Below is a video of Chloe riding Harry.

“They have made a huge difference to her riding and everybody comments on the difference. Thank you Alice-reins xx”

Alice Reins Helps A Lady With Rheumatoid Arthritis To Ride

July 9 2014   Ι   Author: Comments Off on Alice Reins Helps A Lady With Rheumatoid Arthritis To Ride

Jeanneane Crofts was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis after the birth of her daughter at the age of 27.  Jeanneane has always ridden horses and could not think of a time when she could not.

Alice Reins Ideal for people with Rheumatoid ArthritisJeanneane contacted us in the hope that Alice Reins could help her with her grip as she said that she was finding it difficult due to her hands, Jeanneane found it so frustrating that she was always dropping her contact and getting told off by her instructor!!
We messaged  back telling her that we could indeed help her as Alice Reins’ design could be adapted specifically for peoples’ own needs.    Jeanneane was delighted.  We needed to establish exactly what she needed and quickly learnt that Jeanneane had changed her preferred discipline from Showjumping to Dressage and so requested just one loop on both the left and right rein.

We established that Jeanneanes contact should be 3 feet from the bit. Her current reins were 1″ thick and were too much to hold and so the 5/8″ width Alice Reins were recommended for easier grip of the loops. Jeanneanes horse was 16.3hh and so horse length was needed as he has a long neck.
Our quote for Jeanneanes reins was accepted and paid for and so went into production, she was so excited! When the Alice Reins were completed I posted a picture on our facebook page  so that she could have a sneak peak whilst they were in transit and on their way to her.

When Jeanneane received her bespoke Alice Reins she said “They look fab x thank you x”. Unfortunately Jeanneane was having a flair up of her rheumatoid arthritis at the time so couldn’t try them straight away but when she did try them this is what she had to say.

After not being in the saddle for two months, today I road tested my bespoke Alice reins!! They were absolutely brilliant as I’m having a bad arthritis flare up at the moment and they gave me a constant contact with no pain in my wrists or elbows! The hurty part was dismounting!
Thank you so much I am smitten! even if master ludo isn’t!”

We are absolutely delighted to have helped Jeanneane Crofts.
