New FEI Rules: What They Mean for Alice Reins® and FEI Approved Reins for Disabled Riders
What Are the New FEI Rules?
The FEI (Fédération Equestre Internationale) recently introduced new tack regulations that also apply to British Dressage (BD) and Group Level RDA. These updates affect reins used in competition—specifically those with fixed loops or attachments.
Unfortunately, this means that our original Alice Reins® design is no longer approved for use in FEI, BD, or Group Level RDA competitions. This is an important change for riders who rely on FEI approved reins for disabled riders.
Are the Original Alice Reins® Still Useful?
Absolutely! While they are no longer competition legal under these specific organisations, our original Alice Reins® remain a fantastic choice for:
– Riders who enjoy hacking or trail riding
– Young children learning to ride
– Non-competitive riders
– Riders with weak grip or limb difference who simply want security and comfort
What Reins Are FEI Approved for Disabled Riders?
If you or your child are riding in FEI, British Dressage, or Group RDA tests, you will need to use our buckle-on Alice Reins®, which are:
✅ FEI approved
✅ British Dressage approved
✅ Group Level RDA approved
These reins are designed with the same care and inclusivity as our originals, but with discreet buckle-on loops that comply fully with all three governing bodies’ regulations. These buckle-on reins are an ideal solution for those seeking FEI approved reins for disabled riders who want to compete safely and confidently.
Our Buckle On design have a choice in Loop Material. Leather, Soft Flexible Raised Pimple Biothane and Soft Rolled Leather 1/2″ wide, which are both so kind to the hand.
Our Buckle On design can also easily convert to Double Reins simply by attaching our Double Bridle Attachment. Why struggle trying to hold 2 reins when you don’t have to!
Everyday Use for Original Alice Reins®
We know many of you still rely on the original Alice Reins® every day. They’re easy to use, secure, and provide independence and confidence in the saddle. Whether it’s for hacking, schooling, or getting back in the saddle after injury, they remain an invaluable tool for so many riders.
