We were contacted by a lovely lady called Joanne Hodge who told me about her lovely daughter Lucy. Lucy is very similar to my daughter Alice and she has just one functional hand on her left. Lucy could not grip with her right hand. Joanne called me to tell me all about Lucy and the difficulties she had.
Lucy had lost her confidence when riding as she was unable to control her pony and so became more and more frustrated not being able to ride as others did. Joanne and I discussed the width and length Lucy would need her reins and I assured Joanne that they would really make a difference to Lucy and her riding. Lucy’s Alice Reins were made and sent to her.
This is what Lucy had to say:
“I’m Lucy and I am 12 years old I started riding when I was at the age of 10. I was very stressed and felt unsafe with my side reins tied together using a flash until my Mam discovered Alice Reins so I give them a go. Now I can do everything I can even do jumps now I’m a lot happier and much more confident. I have better control of Paddy.
Thank you Alice Reins
From Lucy xxx “
Lucy’s confidence has soared since riding with her Alice Reins her Mum Joanne had this to say:
“These reins are fantastic they have given Lucy the confidence she needed thank you Alice reins xx”
“Gorgeous lucy is a confident rider thanks to her Alice Reins :)) xx”
We are thrilled to have been able to help Lucy and make such a difference to her riding life. Could we help you too?

Jeanneane Crofts was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis after the birth of her daughter at the age of 27. Jeanneane has always ridden horses and could not think of a time when she could not.
Jeanneane contacted us in the hope that Alice Reins could help her with her grip as she said that she was finding it difficult due to her hands, Jeanneane found it so frustrating that she was always dropping her contact and getting told off by her instructor!!
We messaged back telling her that we could indeed help her as Alice Reins’ design could be adapted specifically for peoples’ own needs. Jeanneane was delighted. We needed to establish exactly what she needed and quickly learnt that Jeanneane had changed her preferred discipline from Showjumping to Dressage and so requested just one loop on both the left and right rein.
We established that Jeanneanes contact should be 3 feet from the bit. Her current reins were 1″ thick and were too much to hold and so the 5/8″ width Alice Reins were recommended for easier grip of the loops. Jeanneanes horse was 16.3hh and so horse length was needed as he has a long neck.
Our quote for Jeanneanes reins was accepted and paid for and so went into production, she was so excited! When the Alice Reins were completed I posted a picture on our facebook page so that she could have a sneak peak whilst they were in transit and on their way to her.

When Jeanneane received her bespoke Alice Reins she said “They look fab x thank you x”. Unfortunately Jeanneane was having a flair up of her rheumatoid arthritis at the time so couldn’t try them straight away but when she did try them this is what she had to say.
“After not being in the saddle for two months, today I road tested my bespoke Alice reins!! They were absolutely brilliant as I’m having a bad arthritis flare up at the moment and they gave me a constant contact with no pain in my wrists or elbows! The hurty part was dismounting!
Thank you so much I am smitten! even if master ludo isn’t!”
We are absolutely delighted to have helped Jeanneane Crofts.
